We managed to snag tickets for Tuesday’s daytime and Thursday’s evening track and field events. My boyfriend ran track in college (Captain of the Track Team — I’m so proud) so it was a real thrill for him to see these world-class athletes compete. The thrill for me, however, was the architecture. Herzog & de Meuron > All. Except maybe Foster + Partners. Terminal 3, designed by Foster, at the Beijing Airport is poetic, stunning, and unconventional. Not adjectives one normally applies to an airport.

My boyfriend and I just returned from a week-long jaunt in Beijing for the Olympics and another family event (even more important in my mind than the Olympics, imagine that).

The venues, like Herzog & de Meuron’s “Bird Nest” stadium are even more impressive and beautiful in person. I was only in Beijing two years ago, but it now feels like a brand new city.

Images coming soon.
