My Bottega Veneta “New Pyramid” woven leather hobo in “Noce.” Gorgeous. Recognizable to people who understand quality. Doesn’t need a logo to validate its design. (That’s my photo, by the way. My BV is enjoying a box seat at a Bulls game.)

This is the bag I carry to work and any other place where I feel that wearing a logoed handbag is inappropriate. It’s the antidote to the only other handbags I own, which are Chanel, and mostly logoed. Here’s a great except from a Vanity Fair article about Tomas Maier and BV:

Maier’s orderly mind has found a very good fit at Bottega Veneta; so has his eye for quiet luxury, along with his strong attraction to all things anti-bling. A Bottega bag, unlike those from the main competitors, never features a logo on the outside. “Tomas is Mr. Discreet,” says Preston. “He is discreet, the product is discreet. The old Bottega motto from the 70s was ‘When Your Own Initials Are Enough.’ Perfect for Tomas. Streamlined, only for those who know. He’s not out to prove anything. Either you get it or you don’t. And he doesn’t want everyone to get it. I mean, it’s not like he’s trying to hide it, but it’s not his goal in life—to please everyone.”

Example of my personal logoed-ness: my most recent Chanel acquisition, the “Medallion Tote” made famous in an episode of MTV’s “The Hills” when Jason gave it to Lauren Conrad for Christmas, and which she consequently wore to death. I still love the lady-like proportions and structured shape — so I bought it anyway a couple months ago.
